Kingswood Camp is north of Victoria on the Saanich Penninsula. Situated on the west side of Elk Lake it is ideal for many different outdoor activities for all ages. A wide variety of wild flowers bloom from mid-March until the end of June including Easter lillies, Star Flowers and Shooting Stars. Both residential and tenting accomodations are available enabling larger groups such as Districts to camp at one facility yet house all levels from Sparks to Sr. Branches. Kingswood Crest

Features:

General:

Kingswood has caretakers on site and must be respected. The sign in/out kiosk is by the caretaker's cottage. Across the road from there is a shed with tents and patrol boxes as well as canoe storage. The Daisy Ives Memorial Chapel is also on site. Kingswood crests are available at Guide House in Victoria.

Sites:

Four sites offer a variety of camping experiences depending on the size and experience of the group.

Residential: McKevitt Lodge
This residential site can house 24 girls plus staff and is wheel chair accessible. There is a large room with a fireplace of which is a kitchen with stove, fridge and hot water; and a sleeping room with 24 bunks, no mattresses; and a small room for Guiders. A covered porch faces the campfire ring. Brownies have priority February - June and September - October.
Freeman King
A camp site for 18 plus staff. There is a shelter with a wood stove and 2 lats
Bill Reith
A larger camp site for 36 plus staff. A shelter with sky lights, lats and a pump house for equipment area all nearby.
Arbutus
For the more adventurous, a lightweight camping spot. Everything must be packed in.

  • Swimming (Beaver Lake), 1/2 hour walk south on trail from lower site or north on trail around Elk Lake - 10 km
  • Nature walk and picnic north on trail from lower site
  • Dominion Astrophysical Observatory
  • Hikes/Local Attractions:
    • Bear Hill Regional Park
    • Mount Work Regional Park
    • Island View Beach
    • Lochside Trail - runs from Swartz Bay Ferry terminal to connect with the Galloping Goose Trail to downtown and also to Sooke
  • Saanich Historical Artifacts Museum
  • Sidney Spit - access by ferry, summers only
  • Butchart Gardens, open all year, fireworks Saturdays in July and August
  • Butterfly World
  • British Columbia Aviation Museum
  • Saanich Commonwealth Pool, wave pool
  • Ocean Sciences Institute, Pacific GeoScience Centre and Canadian Hydrographic Centre, studies climate, chemistry, ecology and physics of the ocean. Mid-day tours available, phone for appointment
