![]() Letter of Commendation A Letter of Commendation may be given to a girl or adult Member in recognition of service to GGC. It may be given by any Member; applications are authorized by the awarding council. It may be given more than once to the same person. Lady Baden-Powell Challenge The Lady
Baden-Powell challenge is the highest award girls earn in the Guide
program. Completion
of this
challenge usually takes two years.
Unit
Guiders award the pin.
![]() This is the highest award girls earn in the Pathfinder program by completing the requirements from their program. Unit Guiders award the pin but SVI Area conducts a special ceremony to recognize the girls’ efforts as well. This award may be given at any level with the permission of the council concerned. It may be given more than once. Back To Top ___________________________________________________________________________________ Area Approvals 1) Specific Ranger Awards administered through the Area Awards Committee Commonwealth Award ![]() The Commonwealth Award is open to Rangers in Commonwealth countries. Challenges completed for the Commonwealth Award may be counted toward the Chief Commissioner’s Award. Link to Guider Application required by Area Awards for Commonwealth Award Chief Commissioner’s Award: a) Bronze and Silver Awards ![]() Bronze and Silver are awarded by the unit to Rangers who complete the requirements from their program – Bronze, Silver and Gold levels are awarded on completion of program challenges. b) Gold Award ![]() See the SVI Area Awards Advisor for information about ordering the pin, certificate and special ceremonies for the presentation of the Chief Commissioner’s Gold Award. Link to Guider Application required by Area Awards for Chief Commissioner's Award 2) SVI Education Award This award is open to any girl or Guider under 25 years of age, registered in Girl Guides of Canada who is active in Southern Vancouver Island Area for at least one year and who is furthering her education either at university, college, technical school, school of fine arts or other recognized educational institute. Award may be
given to each Member who has been part of a team that planned and
carried to
completion an extraordinary event or project. The award is primarily
intended
as an adult award, but there are times when girls are also part of a
task group
or committee. Therefore, as part of the team being recognized, girls
will also
be granted the award. A Member may receive the Team Award more than
once.4) Duke of See External Awards or their website: http://www.dukeofed.org/ ___________________________________________________________________________________ Provincial Approvals BC Council Bursary and Bursary of Honour These bursaries were established by British Columbia Council to recognize the contributions of active girl Members and to offer financial assistance towards education in a field that will enhance the life of the recipient. The Bursary of Honour will be awarded to the top candidate. Deadline for submission of applications and supporting documents is March 15. LINK to BC Guiding for applications and information Eve Pound Scholarship This scholarship was established by the family and friends of Eve Pound in recognition of her many years of service to Guiding. Eve was treasurer for Guiding in several provinces throughout Margery Dumfries Scholarship This scholarship was established by the family and friends of Margery Dumfries in memory and recognition of her many years of service to Guiding as provincial secretary, provincial Cadet coordinator and Member of provincial committees, and her untiring involvement in training and local Guiding. Deadline for submission of applications and supporting documents is April 15. Energizer Canada Now That’s Positivenergy National Science Scholarship For registered Members of Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada pursuing a post secondary degree/diploma with particular emphasis in the field of applied science and technology (including chemistry and physics). Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du The GGC Scholarship is open to any registered Member who is entering or pursuing post-secondary education on a full-time basis. Roberta Bondar Scholarship The Roberta Bondar Scholarship is open to any registered Member who is specializing in mathematics, science, applied science or technology and is entering third or fourth year in an undergraduate program or pursuing post-graduate studies. Norma Osler Education Scholarship The Norma Osler Education Scholarship is open to any registered Member who is pursuing a post-secondary degree with a particular emphasis in the field of education and/or Members who are attending teachers’ college. Col. Karen Ritchie Memorial Scholarship The Col. Karen Ritchie Memorial Scholarship is open to any registered Member who is entering her first year of engineering studies on a full-time basis. You’re My Hero Scholarship This scholarship is open to any registered Member who is entering 2nd year, 3rd year, 4th year or post-graduate studies in social justice and/or human rights. Scholarship for Part Time Studies This scholarship is open to any registered Member who is entering or pursuing post-secondary education on a part-time basis. Application forms and criteria are available from national and provincial offices or at the National website. The application forms contain instructions and hints for completing the applications. 2) Other National Awards Forti tude
AwardPresented by the Board of Directors to girl or adult Members who have shown great courage and endurance in adversity. The application comes from the Province to the Board. The award may be given posthumously in special circumstances. Fortitude must have been demonstrated within the past 12 months; however, the onset of adversity may have occurred further in the past. Posthumous applications must be made no more than one year after death. Valour Award Presented by the Board of Directors to a girl or adult Member who has shown heroism in risking her life to save or attempting to save the life of another person. The award has three levels: • Bronze for high risk to personal safety • Silver for considerable risk to life • Gold for greatest heroism and risk to life (highest award) Applications must be made as soon as possible and no longer than 12 months after the incident Copy of the BC Awards Committee Quick Reference with information about criteria, letters of support needed and turn around times.
