External Awards

 Aside from the Guiding Awards as seen on the other pages, it is important for our Members to be recognized by the community at large for their contributions.  Maybe one of the awards below would be appropriate for a Member you know.

 1) Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

This is a non-Guiding award but work completed for the award can count towards Guiding Program Challenge requirements and be applied to the applicable Guiding award. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a personal challenge programme for youth 14-25 years.

2) C-FAX 1070 Community Awards

Each year in early spring, C-FAX radio station sponsors community awards in 7 different categories.  A nomination  in several of the categories may be appropriate for Guiding Members.  Leaders could be eligible for the COMMUNITY LEADER or the TEAMWORK AWARD.  For Guiding youth, in particular look at the YOUTH LEADER OF THE YEAR - an individual age 17 or younger who has demonstrated exemplary qualities of leadership and good citizenship.  More details can be found at C-FAX’s website.  


3) Ecostar Award

The Capital Regional District’s EcoStar Community Environmental Awards recognize outstanding achievements and contributions by local businesses, groups and individuals to enhancing our environment.  The Ecostar Awards are offered in the following categories: Community Environmental Leader, Youth Leader, Water Stewardship, Waste Reduction, Climate Action, Land Stewardship, and Integrated Watershed Management.  More details can be found at the CRD website: http://www.crd.bc.ca/ecostar/index.htm .

 

4) University of Victoria VERA (Valued Elder Recognition Award)

The Centre on Aging, University of Victoria, marks the United Nations International Day of the Older Persons on October 1st with the presentation of the Valued Elder Recognition Award (VERA). The award, recognizes and honours individuals who over their lifetime have given exemplary service helping others. 5) Hearts of the Community Volunteer Award

The Hearts of the Community Volunteer Awards, co sponsored by Beacon Community Services 
and the Peninsula News Review, honours the extraordinary efforts of Saanich Peninsula 
volunteers based on nominations received from the community.  Anyone who has done 
beneficial volunteer work on the Saanich Peninsula is eligible.  More details can be found at the My Peninsula website:
